This is my favourite child dish, My mother used to make this Teochew dish at home as it is simple and delicious. I prefer using the sweet mild red snapper and pan-fried instead of deep-frying the fish steaks for a healthier alternative. You can use any fish for this recipe. The gravy is so delicious with steamed white rice as well.
Ingredient
1 fish steak cleaned and patted dry with a paper towel
salt and white pepper to taste
2 tablespoons of cornflour
2 tablespoons of cooking oil
For the sauce
1 tablespoon of soybean paste
1/2 tablespoon light soy sauce
a pinch of sugar
2 tablespoons sesame oil
50 ml water
Instruction
Lightly season the fish steak with salt and pepper.
Dust both sides of the fish steak with cornflour.
In a bowl mix the ingredients for the source and set aside.
Heat a nonstick pan with oil, gently lower the fish stick into the pan and pan-fry until golden brown on both sides removes the fish and sets it aside.
Add the sauce to the pan and let it boil for one minute.
Pour the sauce over the fish and serve with steamed rice, enjoy.
